Changes are Everywhere
I've been getting the same question a lot the past few weeks. "What ARE you going to do while the boys are in school ALL day?"
I feel sad I don't have an awesome mind blowing answer to that one. I imagine I will clean (I seem to have a new obsession with keeping my house clean), do laundry (because it is my nemesis and I refuse to be bested by it), read lots and lots of books (which I do anyways, but now I can read for hours without interruption), refinish furniture (yeah I do that), blog (hopefully with more frequency than every 6 months - gack), edit and do SOMETHING with my enormous digital photo collection (we are talking multiple external hard drives people), take more photos (of everything and anything - come on stormy weather), help in the classrooms (we split the twins up, so that is 2 rooms to help in), join PTA ( watch out other parents I am OVER THE TOP and you can not hide), run errands kid free (oh yeah, parents with small children you know what I mean), try new recipes (maybe), call my mother (she needs love too), write a letter a day to my niece in the Army (who is headed off to Afghanistan in Sept.), garden (gotta get one first, but I have plans), help my mother-in-law with her photos (?), plan trips with the kids (for as little money as possible), start jogging (to work towards the marathon I agreed to this Spring), go from fluffy to firm (already 4 weeks into that one and loving it) and after all that I am sure I will find at least a dozen more things to fill my days.
What I really look forward to as a stay at home mom and wife is having all the stuff of life taken care of by the time my kids get out of school so that I can be there to help them with homework, be attentive to their needs, run them to all their extra activities and then have time in the evening to spend quality time with the love of my life (no not books or my phone).
So here is to the changes that come with kids going to school all day. Really they are just being able to focus my attention to a task without listening for the kids and doing all those mom things that we do. I am excited. I am full of anxiety. I am relaxed and sipping my mocha. I love being a stay at home mom - all those years of non-stop kid time have paid off in ways I can't even measure. Thanks Jeff! I will forever owe you!
Just a few more hours now until the kids get out of school and I get to hear all about the first day, their awesome teachers, and new friends. I have already done 3 of the 4 things I set out to do today while they were in school. I guess I better get the last one done so I'm not behind come tomorrow.
